(from AC Schnitzer Press Release) Luxury and excellent driving properties - the new BMW 7-series combines these two attributes like no other luxury saloon. Owners of this model who want even more sporting performance have come to the right place at AC Schnitzer.

Our engineers and designers are currently developing an aerodynamically optimised body kit for the new facelift variant of the E65 / E66, and adapting the suspension specifically for the use of AC Schnitzer wheels up to size 22".

In the interior, the enthusiastic driver will appreciate the generous use of aluminium in various applications. The high performance exhaust system completes the image of the sports saloon both visually and acoustically, and ensure improved exhaust gas flow.

The luxury saloon becomes even more attractive thanks to the elegant aerodynamic kit. The front of the car stands out with its new striking skirt with grille which has benefits beyond the visual: it improves downforce on the front axle, which is particularly evident at high speeds with more stable driving behaviour.

As an option, a Chromeline Set is available for fitting around the radiator grille.

The rear is enhanced by a new design of rear skirt available in two designs to suit customer preferences. In the first stage the exhaust is invisible as on the standard vehicle. In the second variant, a corresponding cut-out ensures harmonious integration of the AC Schnitzer sports rear silencer with chromed tailpipe trim. A Chromeline Set is available for both versions to accentuate the lines of the rear skirt.

The visual and aerodynamic balance is further enhanced by a rear roof spoiler, a one-piece rear spoiler and mirror covers. The front and rear of the vehicle are linked by the AC Schnitzer side skirts which can be further refined by the Chromeline Set.

The AC Schnitzer alloy wheels in various designs and sizes provide both increased driving pleasure and a more attractive appearance.

Alloy wheels are available in Type II and Type IV designs, and racing rims in Type II, III and IV. And if you want even larger and wider, you can fit up to size 22". The maximum wheel and tyre combination we offer is the AC Schnitzer alloys Type II in 10.5J x 22" with tyres 265/30 R 22 on the front and 295/25 R 22 on the rear. The standard tyres can still be fitted with size 19" wheels. We recommend Continental and Michelin tyres.

For improved driving dynamics compared with the standard car while retaining the existing high level of comfort, we have developed suspension spring kits with progressive special springs. The resulting lowering by 25 millimetres improves the cornering abilities of the saloon even further.

For the interior there are 4-spoke sports airbag steering wheels and velour foot mats available, together with the characteristic AC Schnitzer aluminium pedals and foot rests.
The new design of an aluminium cover for the controller of the BMW
"i-Drive system" in the style of the Type IV wheel neatly sets the finishing touch to the interior design.

The complete AC Schnitzer special accessory range for the BMW 7-series facelift is expected to be available from Autumn 2005 - and the equally complete range for the non-facelift model is of course available immediately.

(from AC Schnitzer Press Release) A Convertible provides the ultimate for the senses: Where can you experience driving more directly than in an open car, with the wind gently emphasising the acceleration, the acoustic muscle play of the engine teasing your ears, and a breathtaking silhouette reflected in every shop window. The new BMW 3-series Convertible, a complete car with folding hard top, stimulates the automotive pleasure centre without setting reason aside. When you've had one taste, you soon long for more.

Engine

As for all current BMW models with 3.0d engine, we offer a diesel performance upgrade for the 3-series convertible. An additional control unit program provides 195 kW / 265 HP and a maximum torque of 550 Nm.

In order to provide performance upgrades for the 335d and 335i with the new Twin Turbo technology, totally new developments are required. These are currently in the first stages of the test phase. Despite the increase in power, the excellent driving behaviour, moderate fuel consumption and superb stability remain unchanged with both performance upgrades.

Even without engine tuning, we recommend to fit the sports rear silencer which - depending on base model - is available as a single system or in right-left combination. For a purely aesthetic conversion, tailpipe trims are also available "solo" for some models.

Suspension

The suspension components have been specially set up for the use of the wheel and tyre combinations. Depending on personal preference, the owner of a 3-series convertible of model range E93 can choose between pure suspension springs and a complete, performance-comfort set sports suspension which lowers the BMW by around 25 mm.

The suspension concept developed in extensive tests on the North Loop of the Nьrburgring also includes the AC Schnitzer sports antiroll bars for the rear axle and aluminium strut braces for front and rear.

Bodywork

In designing the bodykit, the objective for AC Schnitzer was not to hide the body contours under excessive bulges, but to emphasise the natural characteristics of the vehicle in a structured way.

So the front skirt, which simultaneously increases downforce, in its basic design follows the three-piece original but it is substantially softer, more facetted and more energetic.

Like the AC Schnitzer side skirts which aesthetically highlight the side crease of the convertible body and with their asymmetric lines, rising towards the back, emphasise the sporting abilities of the vehicle even when stopped.

Although the classic rear view of the new 3-series convertible is already eyecatching, the AC Schnitzer design language with its more strongly contoured rear skirt expresses extra sporting ambitions with no loss of credibility or coherence.

The Interior

For the interior of the convertible, an extensive range of high-quality accessories is available.

For example, the cockpit can be enhanced with an ergonomically designed airbag steering wheel. There is also a carbon steering wheel trim in silver Exclusive.

Another highlight in the interior is the AC Schnitzer speedometer display up to 300 km/h.

Footrests and pedals of aluminium create a more exclusive atmosphere in the cockpit together with the carbon interior trim in silver Exclusive. The aluminium gear knob, handbrake handle and cover for the BMW "i-Drive System" are available in silver or black anodized finish. Velours foot mats complete the range.

The Wheels

Type II and Type III alloys and racing rims are of course available. Wheel/tyre combinations are possible in various sizes from 17" to maximum 20", with 245/30 R 20 all round.

The avant-garde Type IV alloy with its optional chrome elements as well as the Type IV BiColor alloys constitute true highlights in the wheels sector.

(from Alpina Press Release) The BMW ALPINA D3 – the small, sporty diesel from ALPINA

”It has phenomenal pull,” was the first impression that Andreas Bovensiepen had of the BMW 320d race-diesel that he raced along with Hans Stuck, Marc Duez and Christian Menzel. Together they took the overall win in none other than the 1998 24 Hours of Nurburgring, the track whose North Loop was and is referred to as the ”Green Hell”. This remains the biggest racing victory for a diesel-fired vehicle to date, with thanks going to an intelligent package made up of high torque, high fuel economy and finely-honed aerodynamics

An automobile from ALPINA – and cognoscenti know it – is always something special. Packaging is the magic word – to present a car that the informed, sporty and quite emotional ALPINA clientele will appreciate

At the heart of the matter is the 2.0 litre diesel, endowed with so much potential by the BMW engineers in Steyr that it achieves just over 100 horsepower per litre in the BMW ALPINA D3. This would be a great result for a high-performance petrol engine, and it’s a sensation coming from a diesel. Garrett, of turbo-charger fame, are able to deliver a new charger that simultaneously achieves high levels of air mass through-put with outstanding responsiveness. ALPINA engineers performed intensive development work on the injection system, burn pattern, inter-cooling and exhaust gas emissions (particle filter). The result: 200hp (147kW) at 4,000rpm

What makes this automobile special? First off – it works brilliantly in times of out-of-hand fuel prices. Torque: at 410Nm/302lbs-ft much like a V8 engine. Performance: 0-100kph in 7.4 seconds, with a top speed of 238kph, much like a six-cylinder. Fuel economy: at 6-7 litres per 100km, more like a small commuter car. A truly dynamic automobile that doesn’t first create false hopes by shooting away from rest at low revs, only to peter out at higher revs. Instead, the 2.0litre loves to rev, in the hopes that its owner will co-operate fully and happily with both it and the buttery-smooth-shifting 6-speed ZF manual gearbox

When served in this manner – thanks to the enervating drivetrain – an unsuspected level of driving pleasure reveals itself from the first kilometre on. Precise, direct steering allow driver and automobile to bond, rhythmically swinging from one corner to the next. Upon reaching 100kph on the autobahn, all that needs be done is to select sixth gear, and the driver surfs on a 410Nm wave of torque, constant from 2,000rpm to 3,300rpm. It feels relaxed, even easy, and one has the sense that it’s really a muscle car. Far from it, as the distance-to-empty gauge smirkingly tells the story of 800 – 1,000km to go. Heavy mileage drivers know they’ll have the upper hand against every sports car

ALPINA doesn’t just stand for fun, but also for a clear conscience – which brings us to the topic of particulates. We assure you that you’ll still be able to go shopping into the city with each and every new D3, as the D3 has a diesel particulate filter standard. That said, not even Germany’s Energy Minister, Juergen Trittin, can say anything bad about this sporty car

Light-footed, exceptionally agile handling is immediately noticeable, with an agility not previously found in diesel vehicles. The secret is the ideal, 50%/50% front/rear weight bias, along with a suspension committed to soaking up bumps and providing Swiss levels of neutrality at the limit. The light, MICHELIN-shod 18” ALPINA CLASSIC wheels demand this agility, with of 225/40 ZR18 dimension front and 255/35 ZR18 rear. In configuring state-of-the-art MICHELIN tyres, we purposely chose conventional tyres over the much heavier Run-Flats. Optional 19” wheel/tyre packages, in CLASSIC or DYNAMIC design, provide the highest levels of lateral acceleration

Quite dynamic and yet elegant in appearance is ALPINA’s little one, the D3, with a nod to the wind-tunnel-optimised aerodynamic work done at the front and the rear.

The best for last: the BMW ALPINA D3 has a highly attractive base price, a down-right steal, and thereby effectively removing price as a hurdle for clients new to ALPINA
